Welcome to From Russia With Love Deli!

This was the original website for the From Russia With Love Deli. If you lived in the Bellevue, Washington area you might have visited from time to time to satisfy any cravings for all things Cyrillic. Although the owners of From Russia With Love Deli had two locations in the Bellevue area. In December 2007 the 5600 NE& 8th Street location closed. A several years later the store at the Crossroads Shopping Center closed. What a shame. I really enjoyed visiting the 5600 NE 8th St location to fill up on their delicious hot smoked mackerel and Russian and Polish sweets. This resurrected website concerns itself with the From Russia With Love Deli's spacious location in the CrossRoads mall.

The first time I stopped in at the deli I had been at the mall getting prescription replacement lenses for my sunglasses. It was a bit of a trip since I lived out east of Tiger Mountain in four wheel drive country. Since then I have discovered an online site where I can replace eyeglass lenses without driving miles to get to an optician. Now I just hike the two miles down the mountain to my mail box and drop off my glasses for the mailman to pick up and send off to the lens laboratory associated with the online store, Crystal Vision Lenses. A wekk or so later, I pickup the frames with the new lenses from my mailbox. A piece of cake. I really like the fact that they offer all kinds of replacement lenses, including single vision, progressive, bifocal, and trifocal. I have even had them replace my prescription sunglasses. You can choose a custom tint, or select Transitions technology, polarized, or mirror coated lenses. I don't miss driving to the mall in Bellevue. But I do miss the pastries, smoked fish, and other exotic fare from From Russia With Love Deli.

When I recently discovered that the domain was available, I bought it with the intent of restoring some of its original content found in its archived pages. I hope that someone might be inspired and open another Russian centric deli/store.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PAGE CONTAINS SELECTIVE ARCHIVED CONTENT FROM THE ORIGINAL SITE.

Since the site will not be exactly as you remember it, please be indulgent.

Now let's take a nostalgic stroll back to the From Russia With Love Deli circa 2003.

Some really good items, but not a huge selection. They have huge selection of a few types of things, but over all, a lot less than I'd hope for.
Many things are ridiculously high priced though, even for imported items.
Cashier (owner?) was very nice and friendly. Seemed very helpful if you had questions.

I used to work with Russian Emmigre children in a summer camp and I picked up a few Russian curse words along the way. So several years ago I was in the old location of this store, which was about the size of a small convenience store. The aisles were packed and cramped. I turned and accidentally bumped the basket of an older woman and she mumbled a curse in Russian(something about me being a pig). She probably figured I wouldn't know any better.

This sparkling, spacious location in the CrossRoads mall is fantastic. The Deli Counter alone would put most of the Delis in Seattle to shame. Sausages, smoked fish, borscht, it's all there. The refrigerator case has at least a dozen types of pickled herring, and many delicious looking wieners, bolognas and more sausages. The beer selection is huge and there's enough candy and chocolate to put several dentists out of business.

Get your borscht on.

perfect. An entire shop filled with Cyrillic labels to test your rusty college Russian, that would be enough. but it's just a brilliant shop. i wanted one or more of virtually everything. from the deli case, you must purchase a whole, hot smoked mackerel -- moist and silky in texture, delicate and smokey. You must buy a lump of Israeli feta. There are mysterious, tempting jars of fish roe spreads, yogurts, cheeses, olives, juices in the chilled section. the freezer is filled with crazy little treats like mini cheese cake bars (wha?) and singularly yummy Russian morojnoya (ice cream) in a stand alone good humor type case tucked into a corner. There is a row of shiny wrapped candies, a Russian or polish version kinder sport chocolate egg which must be purchased, and rows of tinned fish, beautifully jarred peaches and jams. Also, honey wine and the much sought polish "nalewka babuni cherry wine" which i myself find undrinkable, but others i know can't live without. go figure. Remember to check out all the Russian language business cards lining the checkout counter. And be sure to say *spacibo* when you tear yourself away.
